laser projectile weapon?

what would happen f a weapon fired a projectile and then shot that projectile with a laser to melt it affectively turning it into a "lava bullet" the surface tension would make the projectile turn into a teardrop shape which is aerodynamic right? but would a liquid bullet do any more damage than a solid one?

If you had a laser powerful enough to melt a bullet in mid flight, then you wouldn't need a bullet at all: that laser would be enough to blow holes in most things.
A molten bullet would also simply fly apart into tiny droplets as soon as it melted.
